Resumen: 
We describe the evolution of of Swift J1644+57, whose unique X-ray properties have led several groups to interpret its behavior as corresponding to an extraordinary event of tidal disruption of a star by a supermassive black hole in the nucleus of a (z = 0.3545) galaxy, as derived by GTC. Multiwavelengths observations are proving to be essential to reveal the long term nature of the emission in this source. In particular, we identify for the first time the properties of a forming relativistic jet. In our interpretation of the phenomenon, we leave the still open possibility that it may correspond to the onset of a dormant AGN, but this may only be tested with longer term X-ray, millimetre and centimetre monitoring.

We review recent findings of a detailed spectrophotometric study based on OSIRIS-GTC observations of 'Green Pea' (GP) galaxies. These compact, emission-line galaxies at redshift z similar to 0.15 - 0.35 are metal-poor, low-mass objects with high star formation rates. We show how high quality GTC data allow us to: (a) derive physical properties and chemical abundances of the ionized gas with high accuracy and, (b) to place constraints on the star formation history using the combined approach of evolutionary and population spectral synthesis models. These results provide additional clues on the nature and evolutionary state of the GPs and highlight their importance as laboratories for studying galaxy evolution at late cosmic epochs.

LINERs have been a class of low-luminosity AGN difficult to explain under the unified model. It has been claimed (Gonzalez-Martin et al. 2009b) that a high percentage of them are obscured sources. Mid-infrared high spatial resolution data will bring us the oportunity to study the obscuration of these intringuing sources. However, these observations have been challenging due to the faintness of the sources and the inclusion of circumnuclear emission. Here, we investigate the great potential of the new instrument CanariCam at GTC. With a preliminary sample of LINERs observed with VISIR at VLT and T-ReCs at GEMINI we have obtained that LINERs fit into the relation claimed by Asmus et al. (2011) for AGNs.

The ALHAMBRA survey has created a photometric database of 500,000+ objects in approximate to 2.5 deg(2), including data in 20+3 filters (3500-9700 angstrom + JHKs), down to AB similar to 25 at 7000 angstrom. We are exploiting our first internal catalogue to select BLAGNs based on the full color information. Here we present the potential of the ALHAMBRA photometry to select broad-line AGN and QSOs. The photo-z calibration with literature data yields excellent results, with similar to 90% efficiency and <1% rms redshift error. Due to their importance in the early universe, we will also discuss its application to the search of very high (z > 5) QSOs and present the GTC/OSIRIS spectra of a previously unknown QSO at z = 5.5 selected in the ALHAMBRA fields. This confirmed redshift further validates our selection criteria and encourages the application of the method to select not only rare or exotic sources but also to classify the different types of galactic and extragalactic source populations in ALHAMBRA.

The predominant service mode operation, makes it specially well suited for these kind of observations. We give an overview of the results obtained in GRB studies since the beginning of scientific operations.

In the last 12 years NGC 2770 hosted 2 standard supernovae (SNe) and one X-ray transient event (SN2008D) similar to a Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB). Given the close (27 Mpc) distance of NGC 2770, we could resolve with the OSIRIS tunable filter (TF) the 3 explosion sites in H alpha. We also show H alpha data of its satellite galaxy NGC 2770B, one of the least metallic galaxies in the local Universe.

Since the early 90s Gamma Ray Bursts have been accepted to be of extra-galactic origin thanks to the isotropic distribution observed by BATSE and the redshifts observed in some of their optical or infrared counterparts. Nevertheless, there have been a few cases that upon further examination have turned out to be of galactic origin. Several of these galactic sources have presented a Fast Rise, Exponential Decay structure which leads us to believe that there could be an underlying correlation. In this work we do several statistical analyses to determine the degree of contamination by galactic sources that certain subsample of known FREDs have. And find that certain subsamples have a most probable contamination between 27% and 34%.

We summarize the results of our programs started in 2009 with the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) telescope. Since then its instruments have been subject of a continuous upgrade, making the GTC a competitive telescope for the GRB field. So far (Dec. 2012) the GTC have followed up 25 GRBs, measuring 10 redshifts, and discovering two SNe associated to GRBs. The new generation of instruments foreseen for the coming years will contribute substantially to enhance the knowledge of these puzzling explosions.
